+ It’s hard not to conclude that Trump’s weeklong shock-and-awe bombardment of executive orders and mass firings–many blatantly illegal, others unenforceable–is designed to cause chaos and confusion and then exploit the widespread panic he has instigated. Consider the OMB memo this week freezing all federal grants, aids, and loans, an executive action aimed directly at low-income families, including Medicaid, school breakfast and lunch programs; Section 8 rental assistance, Title I education grants; Temporary Assistance to Needy Families; state grants for child care; Head Start and SNAP.

+ Oregon’s Senator Sen. Ron Wyden: “My staff has confirmed reports that Medicaid portals are down in all 50 states following last night’s federal funding freeze. This is a blatant attempt to rip away health insurance from millions of Americans overnight and will get people killed.”

+ As the dread and trepidation spread, from universities and homeless veterans groups to school lunchrooms and health clinics, Trump’s OMB, run by only Stephen Miller’s scalp-polisher knows for sure at this point, sent out another 2.5-page memo of clarification, which only added to the growing discomfiture. Republicans, like Rep. Rich McCormick, the Republican from Georgia, volunteered to defend even the most heinous cuts. McCormick told CNN that the cuts were “an experiment” designed to prove that poor kids should get jobs at places like Burger King and McDonalds instead of receiving free school lunches. The school lunch program serves grades pre-K through high school, meaning it feeds children as young as four. Hey, if Trump can work the fryer at McDonalds, any four-year-old could, right?

A última turnê do Sepultura, a mais celebrada banda brasileira de heavy metal

"A morte é uma antiga companheira da banda Sepultura, que já no nome de batismo indicou o caminho que seguiria na música: o do death metal, a vertente do heavy metal mais apegada aos temas mortuários. Quem escuta com atenção os dezessete álbuns de estúdio do grupo, de Bestial devastation (1985) a Quadra (2020), observa que a própria palavra death aparece 101 vezes na totalidade das músicas (algumas vezes, aparece “morte” mesmo, em português). Além da obsessão pelo tema fúnebre, a banda teve sua história atravessada por lutos e separações traumáticas, como também por superações e ressurreições.

No início de dezembro de 2023, o Sepultura anunciou que iria se despedir em definitivo da cena musical, com a turnê mundial Celebrating life through death (Celebrando a vida através da morte). O último show estava marcado para o dia 24 de novembro passado, em Praga, na República Tcheca – pouco menos de um mês antes do aniversário de quarenta anos da banda. Mas a turnê fez tanto sucesso que o Sepultura, um dos mais celebrados grupos de heavy metal do mundo, resolveu programar uma longa despedida: o show final será em 2026.

Trump lança as bases de sua milicia armada particular ao perdoar golpistas

Com o perdão ou a comutação de pena conferidos a mais de 1,5 mil de seus seguidores que participaram de atos golpistas, como a invasão do Congresso em 6 de janeiro de 2021, o presidente Donald Trump lançou as bases de sua milícia particular. São centenas de pessoas, muitas delas fortemente armadas, que já eram seus súditos e, agora, devem sua liberdade a ele. As consequências disso são imprevisíveis para a democracia.

Trump é comandante em chefe das Forças Armadas dos Estados Unidos. Mas, em última instância, elas respondem à Constituição e não ao desejo pessoal de um mandatário caso este entre em guerra a seu próprio povo. O mesmo não pode ser dito de trumpistas radicais.

E esse exército particular, claro, não parte do zero. Entre os envolvidos nos planos golpistas de impedir a certificação da vitória de Joe Biden em janeiro de 2021 e manter Trump no poder estavam grupos armados bem organizados. Alguns de seus líderes haviam sido presos após a tentativa frustrada de golpe e, agora, foram soltos pelo presidente que retorna à Casa Branca. Como Enrique Tarrio, dos Proud Boys, e Stweart Rhodes, do Oath Keepers.

Os Oath Keepers são uma milícia de extrema direita formada por membros da ativa e da reserva de forças de segurança. Defendem que militares, policiais e socorristas não devem seguir ordens que violam a Constituição - quer dizer, a interpretação da Constituição dada por suas lideranças. Já os Proud Boy são uma organização com características fascistas e de extrema direita, formada apenas por homens. Pesa contra ela denúncias de racismo, de defesa da supremacia branca e de violência.

Parte da militância extremista age como milícia não apenas nas redes sociais, mas também na vida offline. Atua para silenciar e punir aqueles que criam embaraços ao seu líder ou que questionam as ideias que ele sustenta.

Hoje, Trump conta com o apoio da maioria da população, da Câmara e do Senado e da Suprema Corte. Sua milícia particular pode, nesse sentido, agir contra dissidentes em um neomacarthismo. Mas se perder o apoio caso, por exemplo, não consiga melhorar o custo de vida, as milícias podem passar a defendê-lo com unhas, dentes e armas contra tudo e todos

Pânico se instala, imigrantes evitam hospitais e crianças temem ir à escola

Um comunicado enviado por um grupo de mulheres brasileiras nos EUA dá a dimensão da crise que os estrangeiros vivem, uma semana depois da posse de Donald Trump. Diante de suas medidas, os relatos são de um pavor instaurado na comunidade de imigrantes, principalmente depois da divulgação das imagens de estrangeiros algemados e conduzidos para aviões como terroristas.

O Brazilian Women's Group, uma rede de apoio para mulheres brasileiras no país, constatou em uma mensagem a seus membros:
A primeira semana da administração Donald Trump chega ao fim com um saldo trágico: mais de 500 imigrantes arrebanhados no trabalho, dezenas colocados em avião do exército para serem deportados, crianças com medo de ir para a escola, mulheres aterrorizadas de saírem de casa, homens e mulheres doentes mas sem coragem de procurar tratamento médico". Segundo elas, "o medo e pânico se instalaram em nossas comunidades.

Em grandes cidades, como San Antonio, no Texas, restaurantes já registram a ausência de seus funcionários, que temem ir ao local de trabalho. Nos primeiros dias após sua vitória, Trump sinalizou que as operações para flagrar os imigrantes seriam em seus empregos.

"Estou sem dois de meus funcionários de cozinha", contou David Gross, dono de um restaurante de carnes da cidade. "Eu não seI como isso vai dar certo", admitiu.

De fato, em Nova Jersey, uma operação que prendeu imigrantes numa empresa de peixes teve um profundo impacto na comunidade, inclusive entre brasileiros. "Foi uma bomba atômica", contou o brasileiro Roberto Lima, que vive na região. O mineiro de 62 anos chegou aos EUA em 1984. Quatro anos depois, era residente legal e, em 1993, ganhou a cidadania americana.

"O governo demonizou o imigrante de maneira covarde", disse. "Deportar imigrante indocumentado é fácil para ele. Quero ver reduzir o preço do ovo, do leite, da carne", disse.

O medo não afeta apenas brasileiros. O pastor mexicano Luis Valles, de um centro evangélico no Harlem, contou à reportagem que passou a semana recebendo ligações de sua congregação. "As pessoas estão com muito medo, principalmente as mulheres grávidas", disse.

Uma das medidas de Trump foi a de impedir que crianças que nascem nos EUA de mães em condição irregular recebam a cidadania americana. A lei foi barrada temporariamente nos tribunais. Em 2024, 230 mil crianças nasceram nos EUA de pais em condição de irregularidade.

Mas, segundo o religioso, o impacto tem sido o de afastar essas mulheres de consultas de pré-natal.
O grupo de mulheres brasileiras faz um alerta. "Isso é exatamente o que o governo quer: criar pânico e nos dividir para que não nos organizemos, não nos informemos, não nos juntemos", disse no comunicado.

"Nós somos muito mais do que isso, nós sabemos que o medo e o isolamento não nos tornarão mais seguras", apontam. "O pânico não vai nos proteger. Espalhar desinformação nos faz mais inseguras. Quem nos dá segurança somos nós mesmas, juntas somos poderosas e resilientes. Para superar esses tempos difíceis, precisamos estar bem informadas e preparadas para qualquer eventualidade. Saber nossos direitos nos ajuda a superar o medo", destacam.

Na comunicação, o Brazilian Women's Group afirma que "está trabalhando incansavelmente com nossas organizações parceiras e com as coalizões das quais fazemos parte para mobilizar nossa comunidade". 

"Ninguém será deixado para enfrentar esta administração sozinho. Nas palavras de Clarice Lispector, ninguém é ninguém sozinho."

Grupo tenta se mobilizar
A ordem no grupo é a de agir para garantir os direitos dos estrangeiros. Para isso, oferece programas, oficinas e recursos para "capacitar indivíduos e famílias a enfrentar este ambiente desafiador".

"Trabalharemos ao lado de outras organizações comunitárias para resistir a quaisquer políticas ou práticas que ameacem os direitos, a segurança ou a dignidade das comunidades imigrantes", anunciaram.

Orientações
Diante do medo instalado entre os imigrantes, a entidade ainda desenhou um plano com orientações aos brasileiros.

+ Give Trump some credit. He has no interest in faking empathy, as Biden did so ineptly. In Trump’s playbook, empathy is a weakness, even amid tragedy. Instead, each disaster is an opportunity to go on the attack, to ascribe blame on his enemies, to aggrandize himself, and to find ways to profit from the carnage, financially and politically.

+ I’m reminded of Robert Musil’s sprawling unfinished satirical masterpiece, A Man Without Qualities, set in what Musil called the “pseudo-reality” of pre-war Vienna. Trump is not Musil’s Ulrich, by any means, an insignificant man trapped in the machinery of a world going mad. Trump is Ulrich’s inverse, a self-inflated man driving the world mad. He is the man without empathy, who feeds off catastrophe, confusion and anxiety.

+ Thus, it was no surprise that only moments after an American Airlines plane collided with a Blackhawk helicopter near National (aka, Reagon) Airport and crashed into the Potomac, killing 67 people, Trump, constitutionally unable to console, went on the attack, casting blame before the bodies could be recovered and identified.

+ Last week, Trump fired 400 FAA senior officials, including the entire Aviation Security Advisory Committee and the head of the TSA, and froze the hiring of new Air Traffic Controllers. Now, an American Airlines plane collides with a Blackhawk helicopter outside DC, killing 67 people. But before any investigation can be done, perhaps because there’s no one left in the government to investigate, he took to Twitter to target the helicopter pilot and the air traffic controllers…

+ The next day, Trump scuffled his way into the White House press room and suggested that the real cause of the collision may have been DEI hires…

+ Then Trump affixed his grandiose signature to an imperial edict (which is apparently how the government will run for the next four years, independent of Congress), effectively blaming Biden and DEI for the DC plane crash.

+ As Trump targeted DEI, the NYT reported that staffing at the air traffic control tower at D.C. airport was “not normal” at the time of the collision. Only one controller was handling helicopters while also giving instructions to planes, which is usually done by two controllers. Meanwhile, according to The Verge, Trump ousted FAA commissioner Michael Whitaker on January 20 at the behest of Elon Musk, who was furious that the FAA fined SpaceX for failing to get approval for launch changes.

+ Under questioning from Sen. Chris Van Hollen, Donald Trump’s nominee for United Nations Ambassador, Elise Stefanik, said she agrees with the view that “Israel has a BIBLICAL right to the entire West Bank.” Does she have an opinion on whether the descendants of Ham hold a legal title to Egypt?

+ The curse of Ham (really his fourth son, Canaan) is one of the strangest episodes in the very strange book of Genesis. Noah is 500 years old but still randy as ever, and on this night, he has passed out drunk and naked in his tent. Ham happens to see his father in the nude and tells his brothers, Shem and Japheth, who grab a blanket, put it on their shoulders, then walk backward to Noah’s tent and cover their inebriated and insensate dad. Genesis emphasizes that “their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.” (The image of the possessed Regan’s backward face in The Exorcist comes to mind.)

When Noah wakes up with a  hangover, he begins shouting curses at Ham’s son, Canaan, condemning the poor kid to slavery: “Noah knew what his youngest son had done to him, and he said: “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.” And he said [still hung over and not making a lot of sense] Blessed be the Lord, the God of Shem [Shem will give his name to the Semites]; and let Canaan be his servant. God enlarge Japheth and let him dwell in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be his servant.” From this passage, generations of Judeo-Christian and Islamic slavers have derived divine authority for enslaving other humans, especially dark-skinned humans, based on a mistranslation of Ham as meaning “burnt” or “black.” (See David Goldenberg’s The Curse of Ham: Race and Slavery in Early Judaism, Christianity and Islam.)

+ Noah sounds like a lot of alcoholic fathers, blaming their sons and wives for their own acts of debauchery.

+ What went down in Noah’s tent has been debated for millennia. Was he simply ashamed his son had seen him naked? Did Ham castrate Noah? Or did he anally rape him?  (The latter two explications by Talmudic scholars have dominated the exegesis of the episode for centuries.)

The real question, though, is why Canaan was condemned to slavery for Ham’s transgression. And there’s a relatively new theory that makes a lot of sense to me: the Rabbis who wrote the Old Testament had Noah lay a curse on Canaan to justify the Israelites conquest of the land of Canaan, a conquest that involved the wiping out of its original population (genocide) with the few survivors being placed into perpetual slavery (See: Steven Haynes, Noah’s curse: the biblical justification of American slavery).

THE RETURN OF TRUMP

Donald Trump has spent nearly a decade discombobulating people who are paid to think about politics. His appeal has been consistently underestimated. It has also been, just as consistently, overcomplicated. The substance of his style is simple: a gleeful hostility toward the institutions that have traditionally organized American life. He positions himself not merely as an outsider but as a destroyer: someone who delights in the demolition of norms and normalcy. “This is not normal” was a protest slogan from his first term; for Trump and his admirers, that’s exactly the point.

His disorderliness is part of what makes him so entertaining. He is the consummate heel, a performer who owes much to the beloved antiheroes of professional wrestling. But beneath the buffoonery is something deathly serious. Large numbers of Americans have come to believe that their body politic is severely diseased. In Trump, they have found a man ruthless enough to inflict the remedy.

Democrats have long understood this aspect of Trumpism. Their response has been to rally to the defense of institutions. The modern Democratic Party is, above all, the guardian of norms and normalcy. This does not mean it is entirely incapable of creativity: the Biden administration’s domestic progressivism easily exceeded that of any presidency since Lyndon Johnson’s. But this agenda was embedded within a restorationist project. The aspiration of Bidenomics was to legitimize American governance. Some things would be changed for others to remain the same.

There are material factors at work here. The Democratic base is increasingly populated by affluent professionals, and they tend to be institutionalists. For them, the basic pillars of their country’s political economy are worth protecting. Yet the coalition also includes many working-class voters who are less sanguine about the status quo, and whose allegiance must be secured through progressive reforms. Thus the political complexion of the party at present: meliorist, even at times ambitiously so, but never antisystemic.

The inconvenience is that we live in antisystemic times. Trump intuited this, and now he has used it to install himself in the White House twice. Each election is different, of course, and exit polls show that anger over inflation was the single biggest factor in Trump’s recent victory. What animated this anger was not just the struggle to afford groceries and other necessities, however, but the spectacle of Democratic politicians and affiliated experts telling people that, contrary to the evidence of their own experience, the economy was in excellent health.

This is precisely the sort of dissonance that breeds the legitimacy crisis on which Trumpism thrives. Gaza may have been a less decisive campaign issue, but it offers a more extreme example of the same dynamic. The Biden Administration is fond of talking about something called the “rules-based international order,” even as it provisions Israel with whatever it needs to genocidally slaughter the Palestinian people. One of Trump’s favorite themes is the mendacity and moral depravity of the ruling class. In the killing fields of Gaza, one could hardly find clearer proof.

Trump will not improve the lives of Palestinians, nor those of most Americans. Neither will he wholly transfigure the structures of government. He is, in practice, selective in his anti-institutionalism: he may devote his next term to dismantling the administrative state, but antidemocratic institutions like the Electoral College, the Senate, and the Supreme Court serve him and his allies quite well.

For those who oppose him, the task of the next four years—and indeed the next several decades—is to think not in terms of restoration but of transformation. Trumpism cannot be defeated through moral appeals, a return to normal, or any combination of policies and messaging. It is a civilizational phenomenon, one that draws its energy from an atmosphere of civilizational emergency, in much the same way that classical fascism, its closest historical analogue, did in the previous century. An empire in decline is a dangerous animal.

To meet the exigencies of the era requires envisioning and enacting a different kind of country, with a different kind of relationship to the rest of the world. There are precedents to consult—Reconstruction, the Popular Front, and the civil rights movement come to mind—but the making of a free society is first and chiefly an act of imagination, a matter of discovering what new shapes might be made from the materials at hand, and then being foolish enough to place one’s faith in them.

"This disconnect between MAGA and the tech right has deep philosophical roots. The political theorist Patrick Deneen, in his book “Regime Change,” makes a point about the American right that has been plainly true for decades — that for most of modern history it has not actually been a conservative movement. He calls Republicans of the Liz Cheney or George W. Bush mold “right-liberals” and argues that their “unwavering support for a free market, ideally unhindered by regulation and political limits, frequently resulted in economic disruptions and dizzying change that undermined the stability of the very social institutions that conservatives claimed to prize.”

In a widely read 2022 essay titled “Why Conservatism Failed,” a young Catholic University of America assistant professor named Jonathan Askonas sharpened this point. He described how the old Republican guard failed to account for the power of technology, as they claimed to be standing for the American flag and family.

“When you descend from lofty rhetoric about ‘traditions’ and ‘values,’” he wrote, “a huge number of the actual practices and social institutions which built those virtues have disintegrated, not because of progressivism or socialism but because of the new environment and political economy generated by technology.”"

Eu sei que a gente se acostuma. Mas não devia.

A gente se acostuma a morar em apartamentos de fundos e a não ter outra vista que não as janelas ao redor. E, porque não tem vista, logo se acostuma a não olhar para fora. E, porque não olha para fora, logo se acostuma a não abrir de todo as cortinas. E, porque não abre as cortinas, logo se acostuma a acender mais cedo a luz. E, à medida que se acostuma, esquece o sol, esquece o ar, esquece a amplidão.

A gente se acostuma a acordar de manhã sobressaltado porque está na hora. A tomar o café correndo porque está atrasado. A ler o jornal no ônibus porque não pode perder o tempo da viagem. A comer sanduíche porque não dá para almoçar. A sair do trabalho porque já é noite. A cochilar no ônibus porque está cansado. A deitar cedo e dormir pesado sem ter vivido o dia.

A gente se acostuma a abrir o jornal e a ler sobre a guerra. E, aceitando a guerra, aceita os mortos e que haja números para os mortos. E, aceitando os números, aceita não acreditar nas negociações de paz. E, não acreditando nas negociações de paz, aceita ler todo dia da guerra, dos números, da longa duração.

A gente se acostuma a esperar o dia inteiro e ouvir no telefone: hoje não posso ir. A sorrir para as pessoas sem receber um sorriso de volta. A ser ignorado quando precisava tanto ser visto.

A gente se acostuma a pagar por tudo o que deseja e o de que necessita. E a lutar para ganhar o dinheiro com que pagar. E a ganhar menos do que precisa. E a fazer fila para pagar. E a pagar mais do que as coisas valem. E a saber que cada vez pagar mais. E a procurar mais trabalho, para ganhar mais dinheiro, para ter com que pagar nas filas em que se cobra.

A gente se acostuma a andar na rua e ver cartazes. A abrir as revistas e ver anúncios. A ligar a televisão e assistir a comerciais. A ir ao cinema e engolir publicidade. A ser instigado, conduzido, desnorteado, lançado na infindável catarata dos produtos.

A gente se acostuma à poluição. Às salas fechadas de ar condicionado e cheiro de cigarro. À luz artificial de ligeiro tremor. Ao choque que os olhos levam na luz natural. Às bactérias da água potável. À contaminação da água do mar. À lenta morte dos rios. Se acostuma a não ouvir passarinho, a não ter galo de madrugada, a temer a hidrofobia dos cães, a não colher fruta no pé, a não ter sequer uma planta.

A gente se acostuma a coisas demais, para não sofrer. Em doses pequenas, tentando não perceber, vai afastando uma dor aqui, um ressentimento ali, uma revolta acolá. Se o cinema está cheio, a gente senta na primeira fila e torce um pouco o pescoço. Se a praia está contaminada, a gente molha só os pés e sua no resto do corpo. Se o trabalho está duro, a gente se consola pensando no fim de semana. E se no fim de semana não há muito o que fazer a gente vai dormir cedo e ainda fica satisfeito porque tem sempre sono atrasado.

A gente se acostuma para não se ralar na aspereza, para preservar a pele. Se acostuma para evitar feridas, sangramentos, para esquivar-se de faca e baioneta, para poupar o peito. A gente se acostuma para poupar a vida. Que aos poucos se gasta, e que, gasta de tanto acostumar, se perde de si mesma.

Com cessar-fogo em Gaza, famiias voltam para casa com ossos de parentes

Há muita gente voltando para casa no Norte de Gaza com o cessar-fogo. Estão trazendo feridos e mortos. Mas também ossos porque, após dois meses, é o que resta dos corpos dos parentes que morreram.”

A declaração foi dada à coluna por Mohammed Salha, diretor do hospital Al-Awda do campo de refugiados de Jabalia, norte da Faixa de Gaza, nesta segunda (20). Com o acordo entre o governo Netanyahu e o Hamas, muitos tentam voltar para o que sobrou da área mais destruída pelos bombardeios israelenses. Trazem os vivos, mas também seus mortos, por arma, fome ou doença.

Essa unidade de saúde foi a única a continuar funcionando em meio aos cercos do Exército, mesmo com a falta de recursos humanos, medicamentos e energia, além de ameaças, mortes e prisões de membros da equipe, nos 470 dias de conflito.

“Neste momento, não há bombas caindo nem tanques em volta do hospital. Mas temos que lidar com um imenso número de feridos, afirma o médico. “E as estradas ainda estão bloqueadas. Estamos agindo, em cooperação com organizações internacionais para trazer tratores a fim de reabri-las”, afirm
a Salha sobre a dificuldade dos feridos de chegarem ao hospital.
“E, além das estradas, também precisamos de ambulâncias, porque elas se foram”, lamenta, enquanto dá um suspiro diante da situação de calamidade.

Ao longo do conflito, ambulâncias foram alvo do exército, que as acusava de transportarem membros do Hamas. O governo Netanyahu também acusa os hospitais de esconderem centros de controle do grupo extremista.

Em 7 de outubro de 2023, o ataque terrorista do Hamas matou 1.139 pessoas em Israel, segundo o governo de Israel. Além de mais de 200 foram feitas reféns, que começaram a ser trocados por prisioneiros palestinos no cessar-fogo. A reação do governo de Israel foi a morte de mais de 47 mil pessoas (dos quais, mais de 18 mil crianças) desde então, segundo dados do Ministério da Saúde de Gaza controlado pelo Hamas.
Salha pede ajuda à comunidade internacional para que o hospital continue funcionando, dado que a quantidade de feridos que estavam na região está se somando àquela que, agora, vêm do Sul. Para ele, o cessar-fogo não é o fim de um drama, mas apenas mais um capítulo.

Trump corta mais de US$ 1 mi a entidades no Brasil e ongs ficam ameaçadas

O governo de Donald Trump cancelou mais de US$ 1 milhão em repasses para entidades da sociedade civil brasileira, impactando dezenas de programas no setor de equidade racial. Algumas organizações avaliam a necessidade de demissões.

Além disso, organizações que repassam fundos para ONGs no Brasil, como a USAID, vão parar de ceder fundos, abrindo a possibilidade de que entidades de direitos humanos no país sejam fechadas.

As decisões estão tendo como base a Ordem Executiva do governo Trump que, em seu primeiro dia de governo, anunciou a suspensão de repasses de ajuda internacional durante 90 dias. Nesse período, os programas seriam reavaliados.
    
As entidades que estão sofrendo cortes optaram por não divulgar os programas específicos que estão sendo afetados e nem seus nomes, temendo uma retaliação ainda mais drástica com a divulgação dos cortes.

O UOL apurou, porém, que muitas estão relacionadas com temas indígenas na região amazônica e no Norte do país.

Uma das preocupações se refere ao corte de recursos a projetos que envolvem bolsistas indígenas e quilombolas jovens. Eles recebem esse dinheiro mensalmente e investem em suas comunidades.

A avaliação é de que os cortes podem afetar a preservação de saberes tradicionais, o empoderamento econômico destas comunidades e, assim, abrir espaço para o avanço do agronegócio.

No combate ao racismo, também foram afetados programas reiniciados com o Brasil no governo de Joe Biden em temas de educação, acesso à justiça, cultura e memória e saúde. O corte também afeta quilombolas na região Norte e Nordeste do país.

Segundo as entidades brasileiras, os repasses para a agenda climática estão sendo cancelados, impactando na participação da sociedade civil na COP 30, em Belém, no final do ano.

Projetos ainda de defesa das mulheres, pessoas negras, juventude e população LGBTI+ foram alertados já de suspensão de pagamentos.

Projetos de fortalecimento das organizações da sociedade civil estão sendo cortados, impactando no fortalecimento da democracia. Projetos de liberdade e associação religiosa tampouco serão renovados pelo governo Trump.

De acordo com as entidades, a ordem executiva impede que qualquer organização que recebia financiamento do Departamento de Estado norte-americano possa utilizar os recursos recebidos a partir do dia 24 de janeiro e, mais especificamente, que venha a receber qualquer dinheiro.

No caso brasileiro, grande parte do financiamento dessas organizações vem do exterior, e a participação da sociedade civil no fortalecimento da democracia tem previsão constitucional.

As entidades querem, agora, chamar a atenção para que o governo brasileiro se prepare para as consequências do enfraquecimento da participação da sociedade civil na construção da democracia. Para eles, esse corte ameaça os avanços promovidos por esses atores na pauta de direitos humanos.

Entre as entidades, a avaliação é ainda de que o corte leve a uma demissão de funcionários de organizações de direitos humanos. "Esses cortes de recursos vão impactar quem financia as organizações no Brasil e as próprias organizações de base", explicou uma das ONGs, em condição de anonimato.
