Seu Manoelzinho é analfabeto, ex-servente de pedreiro e agricultor. Mora em uma casinha humilde –herdada da mãe, dona Fernandina, morta há um ano– em Mantenópolis, pequena cidade a 251 km de Vitória (ES).

 Ele é diretor amador de filmes, mas não se dedica à paixão há quatro anos por causa da tal “fama”. “Depois que eu apareci na televisão, as pessoas que trabalhavam nos meus filmes de graça acham que fiquei rico e querem cobrar R$ 100 para atuar”, diz Manoel Loreno, 52, que filmou mais de 40 filmes em VHS e perdeu a maioria das fitas.

FPutin vai mesmo enfrentar o Pussy Riot?

Os líderes russos sempre compreenderam a força das imagens de poder. Das foices e martelos. Das ogivas nucleares e dos homens musculosos envolvidos em másculas atividades ao ar livre, de peito nu. E, no mais recente exemplo: a de cinco jovens em balaclavas coloridas pulando sem parar no coração simbólico do Estado russo, a Praça Vermelha.

O Pussy Riot não é apenas o movimento revolucionário mais cool que existe. É também o mais cortês. São filhas de que qualquer pai se orgulharia. Inteligentes, divertidas, sensíveis, e não têm medo de defender aquilo que acreditam. Uma delas faz questão de me dizer que a "gentileza" é parte importante de sua ideologia. E fizeram mais para expor a falência moral do regime de Putin do que provavelmente qualquer outro grupo. Nenhum político, jornalista, líder oposicionista ou personalidade pública criou tanto ruído. E tampouco deflagrou debates potencialmente tão significativos. O mais impressionante de tudo, talvez, seja o fato de que tudo que elas realizaram foi feito via arte.

 A generosidade de Chris Marker não comoveu o distribuidor internacional desse documentário, que lhe pediu para assinar um contrato formal de cessão de imagens. Resposta de Marker: “É uma questão de princípios para mim: quando um contrato é tão absurdo e desnecessário quanto nesse caso, eu me recuso a entrar nesse jogo. Conheço o mundo que se esconde por trás desse tipo de obrigações: um mundo onde em pouco tempo não se poderia enviar flores para uma garota sem pedir um recibo. Eu me recuso a me submeter, mesmo que de forma simbólica, a esse mundo. Vocês não terão minha assinatura num contrato, só terão minha palavra. Se ela não for suficiente, isso significa que minha palavra não tem valor, e eu não recomendo que alguém me diga isso.”

 Pussy Riot aren't just the coolest revolutionaries you're ever likely to meet. They're also the nicest. They're the daughters that any parent would be proud to have. Smart, funny, sensitive, not afraid to stand up for their beliefs. One of them makes a point of telling me how "kindness" is an important part of their ideology. They have also done more to expose the moral bankruptcy of the Putin regime than probably anybody else. No politician, nor journalist, nor opposition figure, nor public personality has created quite this much fuss. Nor sparked such potentially significant debate. The most amazing thing of all, perhaps – more amazing even than calling themselves feminists in the land women's rights forgot – is that they've done it with art.

It's just the most incredible story. It's just so rock'n'roll. It really is punk. What they did was as shocking as what the Sex Pistols did. Maybe more so. Because it was against this dictator. It's punks against Putin.
